For registration assistance: 608-890-3260

Mythology 101 will acquaint students with major characters in classical mythology, as well as characters found in the mythological traditions of other cultures. Each day we will focus on the literary and artistic sources that represent these myths and the cultural and historical context from which they are taken. Daily activities will allow the students to take what they’ve learned and read and apply it in creative ways: from writing their own version of myths to visiting the Chazen Art Museum to identify classical mythological designs and patterns in art exhibits . By the end of the course, students should know the principle names and stories of classical myth, and the ways in which the classical myths are similar to and different from those found in other cultures. In addition, students will learn how to recognize mythic motifs in contemporary art and literature. Lastly, they will read excerpts from and discuss classic works of literature and connect these readings to other mythological traditions.
