precollege.wisc.edu/3003-C-PREC See upcoming dates

Summary

In this course, students will be put in teams and assigned a country to represent. All the countries (teams) will be a part of a sub-committee in the United Nations, asked to come up with a plan that deals with an international issue. After researching their country and the issue, students will partake in a committee conference where they will be allowed to present their country's position on the issue and a proposal for a possible resolution. Students will need to negotiate with each other, while still representing the interests of all countries. From this main project, as well as other preliminary readings and activities, students will learn and explore many new concepts. They will learn about the United Nations and the art of negotiation early in the class through readings, class discussions, field trips, and/or guest speakers and other activities.
