Afterschool Expeditions is a free after school program from UW–Madison and the Morgridge Institute for Research for students in grades K-8 to explore, engage, and discover science with structured hands-on activities covering a broad spectrum of topics. This program takes place during the fall and spring semesters.

My favorite part of the experience that I really want to emphasize was the engagement of the volunteer teacher with our students. The teachers were so friendly and smiley that the students opened up and became involved in the activities quickly. The teacher’s understanding of where our students were at, and gentleness in their interactions, allowed students to feel comfortable asking questions and exploring materials. The teacher’s enthusiasm was contagious. Everyone was so well prepared—it was truly a pleasure to attend this event!
