Latino Youth Summit

March 24-25, 2025

The summit is excited to welcome current 6th, 7th and 8th-grade latine students to participate in this free, two-day event. We encourage students who are curious and excited to explore campus and find out more about subjects and topics they might be passionate about to join. We ask students to engage in the understanding and meaning of the transition from middle school to high school and beyond in higher education and career endeavors.

The Latino Youth Summit is hosted on the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s campus. Students will participate in workshops, activities, field trips and more from 9:00 AM-4:00 PM.  All students will be served lunch in the campus dining halls each day of the summit.

Summit Theme

This year’s theme will be “Encontrar tu chispa”

What is it that you are passionate about? How are ways you can cultivate that passion? Let’s explore your spark! Through culturally relevant workshops and presentations, students will explore concepts of identity, college/career preparation and Latin appreciation. By connecting students to university and community resources, people and opportunities, students can continue to grow and foster their passions and dreams beyond the summit.

Eligibility and Registration Information

Who is eligible?

This summit is funded entirely by our partners to give all students equal access and allow them to attend. If students identify as Latine and current 6th, 7th & 8th graders, then they are eligible to participate! The summit experience is entirely free and open now to register!

How to register

If you would like to register a participant, go to the Latino Youth Summit 2025 Registration. The form has 5 sections and asks for student information, school information, parent/guardian and emergency contact information. It should be straightforward but if you or families have questions they can always reach out to [email protected]. The summit is hosted for the students only but families are invited to our family night!

Family wellness night

We will be hosting a Family Night for summit participants and their families on Tuesday night, March 25th, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and all are welcome to attend. We will celebrate the students who participated in the summit with families. We will also invite local speakers to share about the experience of high education and focus on transition from middle to high school to higher education. There will be a variety of community resources to talk about how to support future dreams and year round and summer learning opportunities. We will be serving dinner from Estacion Inka and eating cake.

Our goals

We are dedicated to the success of all of our students and their continued endeavors in higher education. It is our intention that this summit will create increased access, resources, and awareness for learners with Latinx identities. We have dedicated ourselves to a few key goals:

Support each attendee’s ambitions to attend college

Support each attendee’s ambitions to attend college

Increase awareness and understanding of the college application process

Provide resources to students for further exploration after the summit concludes

Increase belief that college is an obtainable option

Show students that their community is represented in higher education at UW-Madison

Promote successful pathways in life (vocational, educational, mental and physical)

Expose Latino Youth Summit participants to additional college/ life readiness programs as well as potential scholarship/funding opportunities

I loved the workshop about getting ready for college and thinking about what career is right for you. Even though we’re young, this information is useful right now.
