Tuition Waiver Award program
Summer Music Clinic registrants who are completing their junior year at a Wisconsin high school, are permanent legal residents of Wisconsin, plan on majoring or double majoring in music for UW-Madison, and are attending Summer Music Clinic Senior Session in 2022 are eligible to audition for the Tuition Waiver Award Program.
This program recognizes exceptional musical work and gifts by awarding 10 students a tuition-free undergraduate college education at UW–Madison or UW–Milwaukee. Students may audition in voice or all instruments leading to all paths available at the Mead Witter School of Music at UW-Madison. Students must be a music major or double major with a music major to be eligible for this award if attending UW-Madison.
Applications are due June 1, 2022. The preliminary audition round will take place June 26, 2022, and the final round is on June 29, 2022. The auditions will be in person at UW-Madison in coordination with Summer Music Clinic.
Important Summer of 2022 Adjustments!
- Piano is eligible to audition!
- Guitar is eligible to audition!
- Students planning to major in jazz are eligible to audition!
- Students must be a music major or double major with a music major to be eligible for UW-Madison

How to Apply
- Complete and submit the Summer Music Clinic Tuition Waiver Application.
- Submit transcript of high school records that documents class standing and grade point average.
- Submit two letters of recommendation, one each from:
- Teacher or adult of influence (This letter should address the applicant’s potential to maintain required grade point average)
- Music Teacher or Music Professional of influence
- Submit a student Statement of Purpose telling your story as a student musician, your goals and commitment to music and why, and how the Tuition Waiver Award would help you achieve your future goals. Limit 500 words.
- Transcripts and recommendation letters may be sent under separate cover.
- Email materials to smc@wisc.edu with ‘TUITION WAIVER APPLICATION’ in the subject line by June 1, 2022
- Register for Summer Music Clinic Senior Session 2022 by April 30, 2022.
