Summary

Acting Up: Summer Camp Edition explores the world of theatre and writing in an in-depth and fun manner. This class will explore two main areas, acting and playwriting, using a college-based curriculum. Students will also explore a variety of other areas related to self, community building and life. In terms of acting, students will focus on creating characters that respond and react naturally. This will be accomplished by first teaching the basics of theatre and then by expanding our focus to explore various advanced techniques, including GOTE and "The Actor's Wheel of Connection." While exploring playwriting students will, using their journals, be introduced to various writing forms in the theatre, along with many other creative writing venues that will allow them to expand their abilities as writers. Finally, students will audition for and perform The Bottom of the Lake, an awesome combination of ghost stories, urban legends, teen issues, romance, absurd comedy and film noir, all in a single play! Then you'll bring The Bottom of the Lake to life as you take the stage at one of the university's theatres. If you're interested in acting, writing, ghost stories, working as a team, or exploring what's at the bottom of the lake, this is the class for you.
