Summary

Have you ever considered that acting is designed to help you develop a wide range of skills, both technical and personal that are essential to being a human being? Key skills such as emotional range and creative expression, character development, voice and speech practice, physical movement and body awareness, improvisation, memory, focus, and confidence building collaboration, listening. We will explore the world of theatre in an in-depth and melodramatic manner in two areas of focus, acting and playwriting. Students will also learn about a variety of other areas related to self, adolescence, community building and expression. This will be accomplished by first teaching the basics of theatre and then by expanding our focus to explore various advanced techniques, including GOTE and "The Actor's Wheel of Connection." While exploring playwriting students will be introduced to various writing forms in the theatre, along with many other creative writing venues that will allow them to expand their abilities as writers and as people. If you are looking to practice and develop any or all of these skills in a meaningful way, then this might be the course for you.

Student profile

Please note that we will be offering an Acting course for each session of STEP. Each Acting course can be taken individually or in combination with each other as these two courses will explore different material, concepts, and acting practice. Students considering participating in both sessions of STEP could take the Acting courses both weeks to spend more time working and practicing their acting skills.
