Did you know that in 30 minutes, the human body gives off enough heat to bring a gallon of water to a boil? The human body is a complex machine made up of important systems that keep us active and alive. If you are interested in this fact or in the intricacies of the human body, then this is the class for you. Students will take a closer look into the main systems of the human body, their important functions, and how they all work together to maintain homeostasis/life. To gain an elevated understanding of these systems, students will perform animal dissections, simulate active scenarios and role-playing, design body engineering models, hear from university speakers in related fields and work on their final project to construct a full-body system. In addition to the body system overview, students will also be introduced to nutrition, exercise physiology and immunology. A closer exploration of the lymphatic system will be provided in order for students to explore questions regarding the current pandemic. This class is a holistic approach to understanding the body.
